Administrative Law

As a business owner or citizen, you are regularly confronted with decisions made by the municipality, province or national government. This is when administrative law comes into play. Administrative law is a broad field of law that governs the relationship between citizens and the government. It includes the rules and procedures the government must follow when making decisions, performing tasks and enforcing the law. This could include zoning ordinances, penalty notices, inspections (and fines) and hospitality cases.

You are not always required to be assisted by a lawyer. But how often do you litigate against the government? Our administrative law attorneys know their way around the jungle of rules. A procedure or an application often ends in disappointment when someone starts litigation himself and is not sufficiently familiar with, for example, the General Administrative Law Act. The law has pitfalls, but also opportunities!

We offer:

  • Advice and Guidance on permit applications.
  • Objection and appeal of government decisions
  • Enforcement and administrative proceedings
  • Dispute Resolution

We offer expert advice and support in applying for permits necessary for your projects and activities. This includes, for example, environmental permits, hospitality permits, event permits, and so on. We ensure that all necessary documents and requirements are correctly submitted and complied with, and that you have the permit in a timely manner.

Advice and guidance on government inspections

If bodies such as the Labor Inspectorate, the NVWA, the Environmental and Transport Inspectorate and the like show up at your doorstep to inspect your company, Van Veen’s lawyers are there for you. Guidance during the inspection, submitting opinions, responding alertly to measures taken: we have seen it all before.

Our lawyers provide legal assistance in objecting and appealing government decisions that harm or restrict your interests. These may include decisions on permits, subsidies, benefits, fines, taxes, enforcement, and so on. We help you file an objection, conduct a hearing, file an appeal with the court, and seek injunctive relief.

We provide legal assistance in enforcement and administrative proceedings against the government. This includes advising and representing clients in proceedings involving enforcement and other administrative decisions. We assist you in preventing or resolving disputes with the government, and defending your rights and interests.

Quality and focus of content

‘As director of three higher education institutions so far, I have been working with Van Veen lawyers for 20 years. Without exception to my great satisfaction. They deliver substantive quality and sharpness, but what is certainly important for directors: they think strategically well and are not afraid to advise against your own ideas. In addition, their way of communicating is excellent: pleasant to deal with, operationally attentive, businesslike. All in all, the value for money is excellent.’

A highly experienced guide

‘A very pleasant and practical approach to legal issues makes Van Veen Advocaten a good partner for us. Their clear and straightforward language on all (im)possibilities within the legal playing field makes it quickly clear to us where you stand as a company. We have experienced Van Veen Advocaten as a very experienced guide through a sometimes complicated legal landscape!’

Entrepreneurial thinking

‘High-quality legal advisor who thinks entrepreneurially and does not just think about making billable hours.’

Confidence for now and the future

‘Hendrik Geffroy and his team have been supporting our organisation on legal issues for many years. We experience the expertise, solution orientation, availability and listening to the needs and interests of both our organisation and employees as distinctive in our contacts. That makes our pleasant cooperation unique and we rely on it for now and in the future.’

Practical solutions that suit us well

‘As a manufacturing company, we benefit greatly from a law firm that really understands how we work. Van Veen thinks along with us and comes up with practical solutions that suit us well. The lines of communication are short and switching is quick and easy, which makes cooperation effective and pleasant. That’s why we’ve been working with Van Veen for years!’

All the specialisations we need

‘As a fast-growing organisation, we are developing rapidly and regularly need legal advice. At Van Veen Advocaten we find all the specialisms we need, from advice on legal forms and contracts with suppliers and franchisees to employment law and legal support for government tenders. It is very nice for us to have a single point of contact who knows our business well. Sometimes I also need an immediate answer to make a decision, in which case it is just a phone call away. Their quick and effective support gives us the confidence so that we can fully focus on doing business.’
